Summary

Destiny 2started out with only a handful of options in terms of Exotic weapons and armor pieces for players to equip during the Red War, but now that number has grown significantly, with each class having 41 Exotic to choose from, not counting guns.Destiny 2’s buildcrafting in Lightfallgot to even higher highs thanks to the introduction of Strand, which provided each class with multiple new tools to change the gameplay loop significantly - something some armor pieces capitalize on. However, with so many moving pieces in the game’s sandbox, it happens that some items are left behind and are not in a great spot for either PvE or PvP, including Exotic armor for each class.

One of the best things aboutExotic armor inDestiny 2is that players can easily pick whatever item they wish to make a build around it, and most of them will work with enough dedication and game knowledge. This doesn’t mean that there are no bad Exotics, however, or at the very least it doesn’t mean they’re all updated based on the current sandbox and abilities. Yet, some of them were just designed with flaws that were never addressed, and with one season left before The Final Shape, they may very well stay broken for when the Light and Darkness saga comes to a close.

Destiny 2’s Apotheosis Veil Exotic Helmet for Warlocks

Perhaps one of the worst Exotic armor pieces in the game, Warlocks can use Apotheosis Veil if they so wish, but it is most likely going to be a hindrance - or not enough of a boon compared to anything else. Warlocks can be amazing in both PvE and PvP thanks to their support kits as well as unique Exotic combos, such as Necrotic Grips withDestiny 2’s Weapons of Sorrow- Touch of Malice, Osteo Striga, Necrochasm, and Thorn. What Apotheosis Veil does is grant health, grenade energy, melee energy, and Rift energy whenever the user casts a Super, which is quite underwhelming and not really impactful in any situation.

Destiny 2’s Blight Ranger Exotic Helmet for Hunters

Hunters have many Exotic armor pieces to help either with DPS in PvE or dominate the field in PvP, but the Blight Ranger helmet is not one of them. This item was never really worth using due to it only increasing the damage output of Arc Staff attacks and making guarding not consume Super energy, but the nail in its coffin was Gathering Storm. WhenDestiny 2’s Arc 3.0launched, Hunters got a new Super in Gathering Storm, which is almost always better than Arc Staff due to it being instant-cast and ranged, leaving Blight Ranger further in the dust.

Destiny 2’s Second Chance Exotic Gauntlets for Titans

Although they were buffed after a rocky release, the Second Chance Exotic gauntlets never got their time in the limelight. This Exotic gives Titans a second melee charge for Shield Throw exclusively, which is also capable of one-shotting Barrier Champions' bubble, regaining melee energy if successful. On paper, this item seems a good idea, but in practice, there are many more reliable and build-defining Exotic armor pieces inDestiny 2, especially considering that anti-Barrier weapons and mods are quite common.

Overall, there are several items that simply don’t do much forDestiny 2players at this stage, but Season 23 and The Final Shape have a chance at setting the record straight and improving all of the most useless pieces of gear in the game. This is not an easy task, but withDestiny 2’s Monte Carlo Exotic Catalystbeing such a well-received addition that entirely changes how the gun normally works, the game can and should have more high-quality Exotics for players to pick and choose.
