Summary

Destiny 2has had many mishaps in the past year or so, and Bungie has taken action to make the game its best self before The Final Shape expansion drops, and that includes giving some fans what they want. Case in point,Destiny 2is checking off a lot of wish listsbefore The Final Shape, and many longtime Guardians were excited at the prospect of seeing Crow and Cayde-6 meet in The Pale Heart of The Traveler. However, Bungie granted that wish already with Season 23’s finale and its cutscene, making Season of the Wish come full circle after six years given the circumstances as to how the two Guardians meet.

Destiny 2’s Cayde-6 in The Final Shape was a big surprise for fans, given the character has been dead since the events of Forsaken, and typically those who die a “final death” (as in their Ghost dies and then they do) never return. Yet, The Final Shape will break this tradition with Cayde-6, andDestiny 2players will get to meet the legendary Hunter once more. The fight against The Witness will call for aid from every Guardian, and The Final Shape will most likely see Crow and Cayde set their differences aside.

How Destiny 2 is Taking Crow and Cayde-6’s Story to The Next Level

Destiny 2’s Crow and Cayde-6 Meeting Explained

The most interesting detail aboutSeason of the Wish’s final mission inDestiny 2is that Crow falls through the portal and is immediately greeted by gunshots coming from Cayde, and after a short fight the two find themselves in the exact same position as in Forsaken, but with roles reversed. In this case, Crow is on the floor, on his back, looking up at Cayde, whereas the Exo is aiming Ace of Spades down toward Crow’s head. This perfectly mimicsDestiny 2’s iconic Forsaken moment where Uldren shoots Cayde-6, bringing the scene full circle.

Both Uldren Sov and Cayde-6 died inDestiny 2’s Forsakenexpansion, but the former was later resurrected by a Guardianless Ghost called Glint, whereas Cayde just returned ahead of The Final Shape. Still, Cayde seems conscious he died, as pointed out in an exchange with Crow.

The fact that Crow swapped places with Uldren and Cayde makes all the more sense given the character’s growth over the years, wishing he had never done the things Uldren did. But unlike Forsaken,Destiny 2’s Cayde-6seems to forgive Crow (and thus Uldren), and helps him up instead of shooting him.

Destiny 2’s Season of the Wish Finale is Repeating History in The Best Way

How Destiny 2’s Uldren vs Cayde Pose Was Used in Season 13

This is not the first time Bungie uses the Cayde and Uldren scene to reverse roles and expectations, but admittedly it’s the most fitting use for it. In Season 13, Crow was watching over Zavala as he and theCabal Empress Caiatlwere making history and becoming allies. However, during one assassination attempt on Zavala, Crow pushed him and took the hit, which removed his mask, revealing to the Vanguard that he was Uldren in his pre-resurrection life. Zavala understood that Crow was a different person from Uldren and helped him up, in a shot similar to Uldren shooting Cayde in Forsaken.

In that moment, Crow was forgiven for Uldren’s actions, and it’s the same thing in the cutscene from Season of the Wish’s finale, but this time he is forgiven by the very Guardian Uldren killed six years prior. This turn of events is meaningful forDestiny 2’s The Final Shapebecause it indicates Crow and Cayde will most likely end up working together, and it could also be a passing-of-the-torch moment, with the former becoming the new Hunter Vanguard. Even if this doesn’t happen, reversing Uldren and Cayde’s roles as the Light and Darkness saga approaches its end is fitting and quite poetic, especially considering Uldren’s infamous saying “The line between Light and Dark is so very thin.”
