Being the major endgame-tier events that they are, raid releases inDestiny 2have always been some of the most memorable and important moments of the franchise’s long and storied history. Since raids come with special raid race festivities on day one and Bungie wishes to allow as many players to participate in them as possible, they usually launch on weekends when more people are not working, for example. This, however, won’t be the case withDestiny 2’s next reprisedDestinyraid, which is set and primed to launch on August 26, a Friday. While Bungie didn’t go into much detail on why exactly this was the case in the company’s weekly TWAB blog post, one of the developers has gone on record to explain the issue via Twitter.RELATED:Destiny 2 Glitch Allows Players to Complete Bonfire Bash Faster and Get More RewardsAccording to Liana Ruppert, a Bungie community manager, the goal is to avoidDestiny 2’s Vow of the Disciple connectivity problems. Those who attempted to play the game’s previous raid may recall that the game was plagued with a wealth of networking problems and other assorted issues, making the whole experience way more unpleasant than it should’ve been. Since Vow launched on Saturday, however, Bungie didn’t have nearly as many staff members on hand as there are on a weekday, and Ruppert claims that the studio will be way more agile should similar issues arise with its next reprisedDestinyraid.

WhileVow of the Disciple was plenty inventivein its own right, the day-one experience was marred for many players and may have even put some of them off from competing in the raid race. Ruppert also explained that Bungie is attempting to avoid any potential burnout for its raid team. This way, if push comes to shove, developers will still be readily available to deploy fixes before leaving for the weekend, which should lead to a substantially improved early raid experience for most players.

Curiously, while Bungie did announce therelease date of Destiny 2’s next raid, it’s still unclear what the raid might actually be. Bungie previously shared that it would be a returningDestinyraid and that it wouldn’t be Crota’s End. With Vault of Glass already available inDestiny 2, this means that the raid will be either Wrath of the Machine or King’s Fall. Either way, the reveal will be made three days ahead of the raid’s release, on August 23.

On that note, Bungie isn’t beyond teasing future content releases well ahead of time. Late in 2021, a cheekyDestiny 2tweet may have teased King’s Fallreturning, though one could also take this as a red herring. With just under a month to go before the raid is out, however, it won’t be a very long wait at all.

Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
