Bungie shared a ton of new information regardingDestiny 2and its upcoming expansion at the Destiny 2 Showcase earlier today. The event revealed some interesting new features coming toDestiny 2with the launch ofLightfalland an official release date for the expansion. Bungie confirmed thatDestiny 2: Lightfalllaunches on February 28, and released a brand new cinematic trailer to go alongside this news.
Destiny 2currently has four subclasses for each of its primary classes. They are based on four elements: Arc, Void, Solar, and Stasis. As opposed to the original three Light-based powers,Stasis launched with theBeyond Lightexpansionin 2020, and it gives players access to Darkness-based powers. Now, Bungie has revealed a brand-new type of subclass, called Strand, that will launch with the upcomingLightfallexpansion.

Strand is based on Darkness, and it will give players more movement options in the form of a grappling hook. With the launch ofLightfall,Destiny 2Guardians will have the power to take advantage of Strand to manipulate their reality as Bungie showed footage of how it functions during gameplay. The main draw seems to be the grapple hook, which will allow players to hook onto a cosmic web even if no object is present. It was originally supposed to be a Hunter ability but Bungie later decided to give it all three classes due to how fun it was to use.
Grappling hooks have gained popularity in the past few years as even franchises likeHalohave adopted it into the gameplay loop. So, it comes as no surprise for Bungie to develop its version of a grappling hook to give fans the option to further evolve their movement capabilities. As some players considered Stasis to be overpowered when it came out, it’ll be interesting to seehow Bungie balances the new Strand subclasses.
The Destiny 2 Showcase also announced that Season 18 will be called Season of the Plunder, and it launches today on all available platforms. Although, significant information aboutDestiny 2’s Season 18 was leakedbefore the event. Season of the Plunder will be themed around pirates and will launch with three new activities. Furthermore, it will add King’s Fall, one of the raids fromDestiny, toDestiny 2. Most of these announcements were already leaked in some way, but fans now have confirmation on the contents of Season of the Plunder.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
