Darkest Dungeon 2received generally favorable reviews after leaving early access in May 2023, with critics and gamers alike praising its enhanced visual presentation, as well as its adherence to the difficult, oftentimes cruel gameplay its predecessor was known for. In a past roadmap, Red Hook Studios made it clear that it wanted to bring this experience to consoles following the full launch of the title on Steam and the Epic Games Store. The developer has been quiet about the progress of these console versions, but recently highlighted government records can now at least indicate what systems will receive a port.
