The date has been set forCuphead’s physical release. After confirming last month thatCupheadwill be getting a retail releasein the near future, developer Studio MDHR has narrowed that down further. Fans will finally be able to have the game in a non-digital form this December, with a Collector’s Edition boasting a few notable extras slated to follow not long after.Few indie games of the past few years have left quite as big of a mark as Studio MDHR’s cartoon run-and-gun shooter since its 2017 debut. If anything,Cuphead’s legacy has only become more solidifiedfive years on as more gamers find themselves lured in by its distinct 1930s-esque art-style, vibrant hand-drawn animation, and challenging boss-rush gameplay. Add to that appearances in other games and media like the Netflix seriesThe Cuphead Show, and it’s safe to say thatCupheadranks among gaming’s modern indie stars.RELATED:Cuphead Costumes Coming Back To Fall Guys, Includes New Ms. Chalice CostumeSoon players will have a new way to enjoy the game, as Studio MDHR has confirmed that the physical release will be out on December 6 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, priced at $39.99. The retail version will bundle both the base game and the recently-releasedDelicious Last Courseexpansion, so newcomers will have the fullCupheadexperience right out of the box. On top of that, the standard release will include a few physical goodies in the form of an exclusive piece of art, six “Funnies” cards with comedic comic panels, and a special Cuphead Club membership card.

Along with the standard version,Studio MDHRand iam8bit will also release a Collector’s Edition for those who want even fancier extras and are willing to pay for it. All of this will come in a box that can also double as a theater stage display for the marionette.

Fans may wonder why it took this long for physical releases to happen, given how popularCupheadhas been for most of its lifespan. But long waits aren’t anything new for this IP; theDelicious Last CourseDLCwas only released this year after being initially announced in 2018, after all. And judging from all the goodies in the retail versions, it looks like the wait will be worth it, and at least it will be ending soon.

Cupheadis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with physical versions launching on December 6 and in Q1 2023.
