This episode is just the latest in a long string of technical issues that have been plaguingPokemon Scarlet and Violetever since the games hit the store shelves in November 2022. Game Freak released five updates over the last seven months, which addressed many issues, but at the expense of introducing a few others. For example, the 1.2.0 update debuted in late February introduceda bug that could corruptPokemon Scarlet and Violetgame saves.

That particular issue wasn’t fixed until April 19, about a month before the aforementioned Tera Raids started crashing the players' games. Between that and the fact thatPokemon Scarlet and Violetstill offer suspect performance and suffer from a variety of weird glitches, many players continue to take online to express their disillusionment with how Game Freak has been handling the iconic series as of late. The severe technical issues exhibited by the games also contributed to the fact thatScarlet and Violetare the lowest-rated mainlinePokemontitles on Metacritic, with an average score of 72.

Despite those controversies, the latest installments in the long-running franchise are nothing if not successful. The games only took three days to reach 10 million in combined sales, thus becoming the fastest-selling software on any Nintendo system. And the overall lack of technical polish didn’t stop even most of their fiercest critics from praising the prodigious degree of freedom that the open world ofPokemon Scarlet and Violetallows to the players.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetare available now on Nintendo Switch.
