For months, rumors have been swirling that a newCall of Duty: Warzonemap is in the works, and if leakers to be believed, that new map will go live in the game when Season 3 goes live on April 21. However, leaks have suggested that this new map is a 1980s version of Verdansk instead of something completely different, like the Ural Mountains maps that was believed to be coming previously. Now an image has leaked of the Ural Mountains map, revealing that it seemingly used the same interface as theBlackout battle royale map fromCall of Duty: Black Ops 4.
Activision has been aggressive with DMCA takedowns lately, so the map itself won’t be found here. However, the map appeared to be made up of various Fireteam maps fromCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, lining up with previous leaks and rumors that the Fireteam maps would eventually become a newCall of Duty: Warzonemap. The Ural Mountains map would’ve included areas like Mines, Chemical Labs, a Weather Station, and more, with a mix of green, forested areas and snowy sections.

For now, it doesn’t appear as though this Ural Mountains map will actually be added toCall of Duty: Warzone. VGC’s Andy Robinson believes that the map was likely being made for a second version of Blackout that would have been a part ofCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, with the map scrapped due to how popularCall of Duty: Warzonebecame. At that point, the decision was made tointegrateCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold WarwithWarzoneinstead of potentially splitting up the game’s community by introducing a new battle royale experience withBlack Ops Cold War.
While Activision has not officially announced any plans to change theCall of Duty: Warzonemap, the evidence is piling up.Mysterious missiles are flying in the sky inWarzone, and various reputable leakers have insisted that the map is going to be blown up at the end of the current season. The new map supposedly coming with Season 3 is said to be very similar to the existing one, but with an 1980s aesthetic to better match the theme ofCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
Meanwhile, 2022 may bring with it another new map forCall of Duty: Warzoneenthusiasts. Leakers have suggested thatCall of Duty: Warzoneis getting a World War 2 mapin 2022, likely to match the 2021Call of Dutygame, rumored to be titledCall of Duty: Vanguard. None of this has been confirmed at the time of this writing, but it would fit the pattern that has been established withWarzoneso far.
In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if futureCall of Duty: Warzonemaps eventually replace Verdansk entirely or if Activision will continue releasing smaller alternative maps instead. There are rumors that the World War 2 map will have more in common with thesmall-scale Rebirth Islandthan Verdansk, butCall of Dutyfans will just have to standby and wait for more official information to be sure.
