Back in April, TaskForceLeak, one of the most trustedCall of Dutyleakers out there, revealed that the nextWarzone 2map would be set in the Netherlands and that the map would be named Vondel, likely based on Vondelpark in Amsterdam, which itself gets its name from the name of 17th-century Dutch poet Joost van den Vondel. That was soon followed by an image of the map leaking online featuring an urban area with a windmill next to a river which looked a bit like Amsterdam to some fans. Today,Call of Dutyleaker CharlieINTEL on Twitter confirmed the long-rumored Vondel’s addition toWarzone 2. All this comes as season 3 comes to a close, which saw the release ofNBA star Kevin Durant as an operator inWarzone 2.
Warzone 2’s fourth season will begin on Jun 28, 2025, and it is expected to launch with Vondel, which was developed by Beenox. The map will support the Resurgence game type at first, with additional support for DMZ and Battle Royale later down the line. If true, that would meanWarzonewould have two Battle Royale maps in rotation, a first for theWarzoneseries. In follow-up tweets, CharlieINTEL described the size of Vondel as bigger than Ashika Island but smaller than Al Mazrah, meaning Al Mazrah isstill the second-largest Battle Royale map in theCall of Dutyfranchise.
The Québec-based game developer Beenox has had a hand in severalCall of Duty titlesdating back to 2015’sCall of Duty: Black Ops 3, and even did some work on theTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2remake. This is its second map since Rebirth Island for the first version ofWarzone. Beenox is also currently at work onCall of Duty: Warzone Mobilewhich is slated for release sometime in 2023. While initially popular,Warzone 2suffered a significant loss of playersin the following months. Time will tell if Season 4 can reinvigorate interest in the game.
