The original 6v6 maps introduced inCall of Duty: Modern Warfaredidn’t all get over well with fans of the franchise. The maps came with an assortment of issues, but the biggest complaint leveled by fans was that they were just too big. Their size couldn’t provide the streamlined combat experience mostModern Warfareplayers expect from the game’s 6v6 game modes.
As such, fans have been asking for new maps for a while now. However, a recent tweet from one of the game’s developers claims player requests have not only been heard but are in the process of being answered. The tweet comes from Art Director Joel Emslie. When a Modern Warfare player made the routine request for new Modern Warfare maps, Emslie responded that Infinity Ward heard players “loud and clear” and was working on it as fast as humanly possible.

To clarify, Infinity Ward has released new, smaller maps for Modern Warfare before: Shoot House, Shipment, Crash, and Vacant. The issue with these releases, however, was that they were few and far between. On top of that, only two of the new maps have found a lot of favor from fans, these two beingShoot House and Shipment. The other two haven’t fared quite as well. In fact, fans actively avoided Vacant in favor of Shipmentwhen the two first released.
The excitement generated from Emslie’s tweet makes sense then. It means that sometime soon, fans will have some new 6v6 maps to play on. In response to Emslie’s tweet, some fans have offered a few ideas as to what maps Infinity Ward could add, while others are just happy new maps are coming in general.
What exactly these maps will be and when they’ll arrive remains to be seen. One of the tweets in Emslie’s thread suggested the addition of the maps Terminal, Scrapyard, and Wasteland. Another fan added that they would like to see the map Highrise as well.
It’s possible of these maps could make it in, but it’s a wonder if Infinity Ward will lean more toward the addition of new maps instead. So far, Shoot House happens to be the only map of the four recent releases that isn’t a remaster or a reimagining. Regardless of what Infinity Ward chooses to do, however, new content, specifically new maps, are always welcome additions.
