Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2players have expressed harsh criticism towards the developer for not fixing the broken spawn system. A clip posted on Reddit by aModern Warfare 2player has sparked discussion aboutModern Warfare 2’s respawn systemthat seems to disregard player positions when figuring out the spawn location. Many gamers are frustrated that this is still a problem after the game has been out for more than a month.

Infinity Ward’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is the latest installment in Activision’s first-person shooter franchise,Call of Duty.Modern Warfare 2was first released to Early Accesswith just the single-player campaign, in which players take on terrorists and the cartel on the southern border of the United States as part of Task Force 141. Soon after, the multiplayer experience was added with the official launch of the game in late October.

The multiplayer experience is undoubtedly the more popular way to play the game, but it is also much harder to balance. One of the more important features to get right in a fast-paced shooter is the respawn mechanic. As players die, they respawn on the map according to the rules defined by the game developer. The developer, in this case, Infinity Ward, can change the delay of the respawn as well as the location, among other aspects. Theproblem with spawns inModern Warfare 2is mainly with the locations. It seems that the respawn system hasn’t been optimized to not spawn in front of ready and equipped opponents.

The clip posted on Reddit shows a player engaging in combat with an enemy and succumbing to the fire. The player respawns on the map almost immediately, as is allowed byModern Warfare 2, near his spot of demise. However, the player doesn’t see anyone around and decides to call the UAV. Before realization hits that there is an ambush, the player is shot from behind by the same player that just killed them moments ago.

There are many ways that the developer could try to tackle the problem. One of the ways is to prolong the waiting period before the spawn, which would make spawn camping less lucrative. This, however, slows the pace of the game, which might not be what Infinity Ward wants - or players either, for that matter. Another way is to create a better algorithm that takes enemy positions more into consideration. It seems like there’s still a lot thatneeds to be improved withModern Warfare 2’s spawn algorithm, and the hope is that the developer addresses it with the next patch.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
