Activision officially startedCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Multiplayer Open Beta by opening access to PlayStation pre-orderers. 2022’s highly anticipatedCall of Dutyrelease is quickly approaching its late-October launch. Activision is sticking with tradition and hosting several betas forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2leading up to launch, with its Multiplayer beta starting things off. It’s just a matter of navigating Activision’s complex design for whichCall of Dutyfans have access to the beta and when.
Open beta forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2will offer an introductory look at what will be available in the full game. The hard cap for the two-week beta’s progression will be Rank 30, though Rank 15 will be the cap for the first weekend. Content featured in the open beta includes multiple game modes, maps, weapons, and more, but gameplay will be focused on thecore 6v6 Multiplayer experienceCall of Dutyis known for.

This firstCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2beta is being broken into four different phases, with each phase adding more players to the ongoing beta. The first phase of the open beta starts today, September 16, and is open to PlayStation players who have pre-orderedModern Warfare 2. The next phase starts September 18 and ends September 20 and is open to everyone on PlayStation platforms. Reopening September 22, the beta will welcomeModern Warfare 2pre-ordererson PC and Xbox consoles. Finally, on September 24 the beta is open to everyone until it ends on September 26.
Today’s Multiplayer beta launch shouldn’t be confused with early access toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s campaign. That will have to wait until a week beforeCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s launch. Those that pre-order the game digitally will be able to access the game’s single-player campaign a full week early, allowing them to focus entirely on Multiplayer when full launch arrives.
Call of Dutyfans anxious to try out the next game’s Multiplayer experience really have no excuse not to jump into the beta, whether they do so this weekend or next. Those who only want to do so for the progression may want to wait, though. That’s because progression in theModern Warfare 2beta will not carry over to launch. Players will be restarting their rank grind at the end of October, thoughgeneralModern Warfare 2beta rewardsfor playing will carry over.
