Before players get too far ahead in theirBreath of the Wildjourney, they’ll want to grab the Camera Rune for the Sheikah Slate. As its name indicates, this allows Link to take pictures of just about anything. This comes in handy when registering items to the Hyrule Compendium. The Camera Rune is also a necessity for completing several side quests and Shrine Quests.
The “Leviathan Bones” side quest will have Link traveling to three different regions of Hyrule. He’ll need to take pictures of the leviathan bones found in the Hebra, Eldin, and Gerudo regions. While it’s far fromBreath of the Wild’s more difficult side quests, only one set of the bones are in plain sight. The remaining two will require some puzzle-solving.

How to Unlock “Leviathan Bones” Side Quest
“Leviathan Bones” is unlocked at theSerenne Stable. This can be reached by headingeast from Rito Village, north from Ridgeland Tower, orwest from Woodland Tower. In order for Serenne Stable to bevisible on the map, players will need to Activate theWoodland Tower.
Look for three NPCs by the names of Garshon, Onya, and Akrah. They’re conducting research on the three leviathan bones around Hyrule, and speaking to them adds “Leviathan Bones” to the side quest list. All three of themneed a perfect imageofeach of the leviathans' skulls.

Obtaining a picture can be done with the help of the Sheikah Slate’sCamera Rune. This is obtained from theHateno Ancient Tech Labafter speaking toPurah. Without it, Link won’t be able to complete the side quest.

Hebra Great Skeleton Location
The Hebra Great Skeleton is the closest of the three Leviathan Bones. Players will want to headnorthwest from the Hebra Summit. This will take them to a slope with a stone door. Beyond this are the bones as well as theTo Quomo Shrine. Unfortunately, no amount of bombs or stasis is going to grant Link entry. Instead, he’ll need to use asnowball. Go to the top of the hill, and there should besnowballs to roll down the hill and crash into the door.
Equip cold-resistant gear like the Snowquill Set whenventuring out into the Hebra Region. Equipping a flame weapon will ward off the cold, too.

How to Get Inside the Ruins
It’srecommendedto Activate theHebra Towerto make the map visible to players. Zoom in on the map as far as it can go, and look for theHebra North Summit. The Hebra Great Skeleton and To Quomo Shrine are located inside the summit.
If players look closely, they can see a puddle of water.Use Cryonisisto buildtwo iceblockswithsome space between themso that the snowball can roll down the path without getting stuck in the ravine.

From where it saysSTARTon theabove image, toss one of the snowballsin the direction of the blue lineso that itrolls over the Cryonisis blocks. If this is done properly, the snowball should grow large enough to break down the door when it reaches the bottom of the slopes.
Head inside where it saysRUINS ENTRANCE(on the above image) and continue along the path until Link sees the Hebra Great Skeleton. Switch the Sheikah Rune to theCamera Runeand get a picture of the skeleton. Remember that itmusthave the head visible. Otherwise, it won’t count and Link will need to return to get a better picture.

Be sure to Activate the To Quomo Shrine and get the Spirit Orb within.

Gerudo Great Skeleton Location
The Gerudo Great Skeleton is in thefar southwest of Gerudo Wasteland. For this one, Link is going to need the help of aSand Seal. There aretwo Sand SealsoutsideGerudo Town. Equip gear that raisesStealth(like the Stealth Set) and sneak up on the Sand Seals. When Link is close enough that the Action Button saysGrab, press A-button to catch the Sand Seal.
If players are still struggling to wrangle a Sand Seal, then they canhit one with a Bomb or Bomb Arrowto stun it first.

Also, players will want to equipa Shield with low Guard. When sand surfing, Link uses whatever Shield he has equipped as a board. Just like Shield Surfing, sand surfing will wear away at the Shield’s durability.
If players already have the Gerudo Set and can get into Gerudo Town, then they can speak with a Sand Seal vendor at thewestern entrance. Renting a Sand Seal costs 50 rupees, but a rented one willnotrun off if Link loses his grip.

Equip heat-resistant gear like the Gerudo or Voe Set when venturing out into the Hebra Region. Equipping an ice weapon will ward off the heat, too.
How to Reach the Gerudo Great Skeleton
From Gerudo Town, take a Sand Sealsouthwest of town(refer to theyellow arrow for the direction). As Link distances himselffrom Gerudo Town, the map will becomestatickyand the desert sands will obscure the screen, making it near-impossible to see. When this happens, don’t panic; keep the Sand Seal in the same direction (southwest).
When the map shows static, Link willnot be able to warp.

Fortunately, theSheikah Sensorwill still be functioning. There is a Sheikah Shrine (Hawa Koth) under the Gerudo Great Skeleton and aGreat Fairy Fountain. Follow the sounds of the radar if necessary. When Link is close enough to the Gerudo Skeleton, the sandstorm will subside.
Once there, Activate the Shrine and get the Spirit Orb. Players will need to come back to this areafor a later side quest, so it’s best to register it as a Travel Point now. Then, climb the left wallso that Link is almosteye-level with the Gerudo Skeleton’s head. Take a picture with the Camera Rune.

Eldin Great Skeleton Location
The Eldin Great Skeleton is at thenorth rim of Hyrule. Thebest wayto reach this skeleton is to Fast Travel to theShora Hah Shrine. This Shrine is north of theAbandoned North ShrineofGoron City. It’s also the place where players meet and rescue Yunobo, Daruk’s descendent.
Look for the giantlake of lava, and there will be agiant skull. Inside that skull is theShora Hah Shrine. Players will want toglide towards itand make sure toland on the skull. Another way of reaching this Shrine is to use the minecart and the rails further up the lava river, but this is quicker albeit more dangerous.
Equip flame-resistant gear such as the Flamebreaker Set when entering the Eldin Region. If players don’t have this, then they can buyFlameproof Elixirs from the Foothill Stable.
Climb up the Shora Hah Shrine’s skull andglide north. Climb up the wall here, and then headnorth againto theEldin Great Skeletonnext to theEast Deplian Badlands. Unlike the Hebra and Gerudo Great Skeleton, the Eldin Great Skeleton is home toblack and silver Bokoblins, Moblins, and Lizalfos.
Link can sneak around the Great Skeleton while wearing stealth-enhancing gear, but if he’s visiting during the day, then it’s likely a monster will spot him first. The best time to infiltrate the Eldin Great Skeleton is at night while the monsters are asleep.Another method is to equip Majora’s Mask. This will prevent Bokoblins, Moblins, and Lizalfos from attacking Link. However, Majora’s Mask is part of theExpansion Pass, meaning it won’t appear at the Kolomo Garrison Ruins if players don’t have the DLC.
Those that are just here for the skeleton’s picture should standfar enough awayand use the Camera Rune. Unlike the last two skeletons, this one doesn’t have a Shrine. If for some reason players wish to visit the Eldin Great Skeleton again, they’ll have to warp back to the Shora Hah Shrine.
