Summary
Bethesda is not giving up onRedfall, the co-op vampire shooter that launched earlier this year to largely negative reviews from fans and critics alike. Prior to its launch,Redfallwas one of the most-hyped new Xbox console exclusive games. Developer Arkane’s reputation led fans to believe thatRedfallwould be another high-quality FPS, but unfortunately, the game fell completely short of expectations.
Redfallreleased to mostly negative reviews, with a lot of complaints about its performance, glitches, and uninspiring gameplay. To say thatRedfallmissed the mark would be an understatement.Redfall’s poor reception saw interest in the game plummet almost immediately, but despite this, it seems Bethesda isn’t giving up on it. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Pete Hines pointed out how some Bethesda-published games from the past have been improved after a rocky launch, likeThe Elder Scrolls OnlineandFallout 76. “Redfallis no different for us,” Hines explained. Hines didn’t elaborate on specific improvements fans can expect fromRedfallbesides theanticipated 60 FPS update, but he did say, “We’re going to get it to be a good game.”
Part of the reason why Bethesda is dedicated to gettingRedfallto “good game” status is the fact that it’s available on Xbox Game Pass. SinceRedfallis a first-party Xbox game, it will remain on Xbox Game Pass forever, and so, as Hines puts it, “people 10 years from now” will potentially be signing up for the service and trying out the game. Its availability through Xbox Game Pass could be the driving force that inspires the developers to right the ship when it comes toRedfall, though time will tell if these efforts will be successful.
Some improvements have already been made toRedfallin the wake of its disastrous launch. There have beenmultipleRedfallupdatesthat have addressed some of the game’s biggest problems and improved the experience for anyone still playing it.Redfallstill has a long way to go, and it will be interesting to see what else is potentially added to the game besides the 60 FPS update to make it a more worthwhile experience.
Fans shouldn’t worry aboutRedfallkeeping Arkane from moving on to a new project, though. It seems as thoughArkane is working on a new gamethat will be more in-line with the titles that put it on the map, though more details on Arkane’s next project are not available at the time of this writing.
Redfallis out now for PC and Xbox Series X.
