However, while these franchises have been a massive part of making Ubisoftthe massive company it is today, there are other elements as well. Ubisoft has created a lot of games that have remained one-offs and some of these have gone down as fantastic pieces of gaming history themselves.

6Monster Burner

While Ubisoft has infamous games on just about every console and PC store since the golden age of gaming,Monster Burneris one of their bigger successesin the world of mobile gaming. An iOS game that was a much smaller scale release in 2011 than mobile games generally receive today,Monster Burnerwas a beloved, simple success.

Players are tasked with protecting hearts from enemies that approach from the top of the screen. With a campaign, gold rush, level of the day, and seasonal modes,Monster Burnerwas a simple game that charmed a huge number of mobile gamers at the time. Though it wasn’t a big enough success for a sequel, the game is one of Ubisoft’s highest-rated games on Metacritic.

5For Honor

The first-person simulation game was an intriguing experiment, focusing on the player’s eagle trying to build a nest in different locations around the city by defeating other animals. A fun game that was a good trial for the style which companies such as Ubisoft wouldhave to adapt to for VR gaming,Eagle Flightcontinues to fly solo as a standalone game.

3ZombiU

Before VR, Ubisoft had a launch game for a console which was an equal sort of shake-up to the world of gaming. The experimental Wii-U did not change gaming in the way Nintendo wanted it to, but Ubisoft managed to show the capabilities of the system and the new controller in a fascinating way.

ZombiUwas one of the first games released for the Wii U, and it remains today one of the best usages of the gamepad system. In a first-person survival horror set in a zombie apocalypse, players were able to use the gamepad to scan the environment and keep a careful watch on the player’s inventory. WhileZombiUnever managed a sequel, it received a lot of praise for the style and perma-death system it utilized andwas released in a fresh formaton other platforms later.

2Child Of Light

There are many points that remain strange aboutChild of Light. Firstly, it was a rare foray by Ubisoft into the world of turn-based combat, often utilized by games likeFinal Fantasy. Secondly, it delved into an animation style and a type of story that Ubisoft normally wouldn’t try out.

Child of Lightwas a big successwith critics and fans, with Studio Ghibli style art and a beautiful story about a young girl who ends up in a mysterious world after dying from an unknown illness. Aurora must complete a series of tasks in order to return home to her kingdom. This sweet game seemed on the verge of a prequel at one point, but Ubisoft seemingly backed off and no news has been heard recently about a potential franchise being made fromChild of Light.

1Beyond Good & Evil

While a potential prequel was announcedat E3 in 2017, there is currently no word on whether it will ever escape development hell.Beyond Good & Evilwas an action-adventure game that came out in 2003, but despite being twenty years old it remains a hugely fun game that is much beloved by many fans.

Featuring puzzle and stealth elements,Beyond Good & Evilhad a huge focus on the story for a PS2 game, and it is still considered one of the best games ever made. While some of the smaller technical issues and combat systems were initially problems, these were improved in 2011 with a remaster. Nevertheless, it remains standalone for now, despite the fact that Netflix is currently working on a potential film adaptation.
