One aspect that players have been excited to see fromBack 4 Bloodsince it was first announced is how exactly the multiplayer will work, especially on a competitive front. According to a recent announcement fromSummer Game Fest 2021, Turtle Rock Studios' showcase could include a first look at PVP in the upcoming zombie shooter.
Up until now, it hasn’t actually been known ifBack 4 Bloodwould even include PVP, with the most recent reveals focusing on the co-operative gameplay and unique characters. On that note, the initial tweet in which this PVP showcase was announced has since been deleted, so it is possible that the competitive reveal was meant to stay under wraps until the event aired.

TheBack 4 BloodSummer Game Fest 2021 showcaseitself will take place on June 13th, and is currently booked as an in-depth look at the game as a whole. However, in a now deleted tweet, Summer Game Fest announced that the showcase would include a first look at the PVP aspect ofBack 4 Blood. So, this three hour event should have a lot of new information for fans, since there is an entirely new gameplay mode to be revealed with the inclusion of competitive multiplayer.
Of course, it should be noted that the PVP aspect of this announcement has been deleted and there is currently nothing else about this game mode on either the Summer Game Fest schedule or on any of Turtle Rock Studios' areas of public outreach. So, it is possible that either the developer hadn’t intended to announce the PVP until the showcase, or the original tweet could have been highlighting a miscommunication about upcoming reveals of multiplayer features. So, while tons of fans might be excited to see PVP coming when they get theirhands-on withBack 4 Bloodin betaor on full release, there is a chance that the game mode might not exactly be on the way.
Considering the way thatBack 4 Bloodis inLeft 4 Dead’s shadowsome form of PVP is almost expected thanks to the original’s use of giving players control of the special infected. So, any news that this type of game mode might be coming is exactly the type of thing that fans of the older games might immediately latch onto. That being said, Turtle Rock Studios clearly has its own ideas for how to elevateBack 4 Bloodbeyond simple homage or a retreading of an older title, and comparisons might weaken both games in the long run.
Back 4 Bloodis set to release October 12th, 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
