In order to get the most out ofAssassin’s Creed: Originswithout running into too much difficulty, players will want to level up fast. Being at a high level will make side quests and story content much more accessible and a lot easier to complete. It also unlocks more skills in Bayek/Aya’s Skill Tree and will allow them to carry stronger weapons.

The level cap forAssassin’s Creed: Originswas originally level 40. With the 2018 DLC expansion, The Hidden Ones, however, this level cap was pushed to 45. The key to leveling up faster is knowing what to look for and what should be prioritized. For starters, players should be consistent with the Skill Tree and always remember to check around for side quests.

Unlock Abilities from the Skill Tree

Assassin’s Creed: Originsuses a Skill Tree system to unlock and enhance the main character’s abilities. There are three different trees: Warrior, Hunter, and Seer. The total amount of Skills is 60. Players can access the Skill Tree by going into the menu and pressing R1/RB or L1/LB on the “Abilities” tab. Each time Bayek gains a level, he earns an Ability Point which can be used in the Skill Tree. Additionally, Ability Points can also be looted from tombs.

With 60 Skillssplit across three different trees, knowing what to choose can be a bit overwhelming. If players are intending on leveling up fast though, then they’ll want skills that’ll give them bonus experience. The following Skills should be unlocked as soon as possible to help grind XP.

Headshot kills will reward bonus XP

Will gain bonus XP if players manage to take out an enemy without being detected.

Arguably, the two Skills that players will want to unlock first arethe Headshot XP and the Assassination XP. Since the others Skills listed above are linked with other Skills, it may be a while before players can reach the XP-granting Skills.

How to Get More Ability Points

Exploring tombs will sometimes reward players with 1 Ability Point. To get the Ability Point, they’ll need to inspect the tablet in the last room. Not every tomb will reward Ability Points. However, players should keep in mind that Bayek will gain experience simply by exploring a tomb. Some tombs with the ancient tablets/ability points are:

Complete Side Quests

Excluding the DLC, there are over 120 side quests inAssassin’s Creed: Origins. Most of these quests can be found in Egypt or the Valley of the Kings, but there are also some in Sinai. Players should take the time to do as many side quests as possible while completing the main missions/campaign.Completing side quests won’t reward players with Ability Points, but they will list the amount of XP that Bayek will receive as well as any potential gear that completing the quest unlocks.

Eagle-eyed players will notice that each side quest also has a Recommended Level underneath its name. Generally, it’s not suggested to take on a side quest when under-leveled, but it hasn’t stopped some from trying. While most side quests can be accepted as long as Bayek’s in the right place, some haveprerequisitessuch as unlocking certain Abilities or reaching a certain point in the main story. Then there areside quests that needotherside queststo be have been completed first before they become available. One example of this is “The God’s Spark,” which is preceded by “Shield or Blade.”

The Curse of the Pharaohs DLC

Those who havethe “Curse of the Pharaohs” DLCwill be able to elevate Bayek’s level to 45. This can be done by completing the “Blood Drive” quest after leaving Siwa. Upon doing so, players should go into the Main Menu, where, under “Play,” they’ll find that their save files now have a new option: “Boost your character to level 45.” If for some reasonplayers are already level 45, then neither the “boost to level 45” option nor the “Blood Drive” quest will be available in-game.

Assassin’s Creed Originsis available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. As of June 12, 2025, it is also available on Game Pass.
