God of War Ragnarokfor both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 may be facing a significant shortage on Amazon, the largest online retailer in the United States.God of War Ragnarokofficially launched on Wednesday, November 9, for both PS4 and PS5. It’s easily the most highly anticipated PlayStation exclusive release of 2022, and one of the largest game releases of the year overall. Yet not evenGod of War Ragnarokis immune from what could be a problem getting PS4 and PS5 physical copies to players' homes.
Amazon has been taking pre-orders forGod of War Ragnarokon both PS4 and PS5 since July. That’s when Sony officially the confirmed the sequel’s November 9 release date. Multiple editions ofGod of War Ragnarokwere also confirmed, including both a standard edition and a Collector’s Edition. There’s even a significantly more expensiveJotnar Edition featuring a replica Moljnir hammer. Retail has been a key focus forGod of War Ragnarok’s release, clearly, but that doesn’t guarantee adequate supply.

A day later and thePS5God of War RagnarokLaunch Editionon Amazon still states that its Free Prime Delivery will arrive between November 18 and 21. The PS4 version of the game is listed as arriving on November 21. Even the God of War Collector’s Edition will arrive earlier, listed for delivery on November 13. There’s no indication of localized shipping issues, either, as reports have been shared across the United States (though Canadians and those in the UK have said there are no such problems).
The simplest answer is that demand forGod of War Ragnarokin the USA is higher than expected. Since pre-orders have been impacted,Amazonmay simply have not received enough stock forGod of War Ragnarokto meet demand. Alternatively, some of Amazon’s allocated stock may not have arrived in time for launch.
God of War Ragnarokpre-orderersor post-launch buyers have the option to cancel their orders at no charge, of course. They can also reach out to Amazon Customer Support and make their frustrations heard, which has led to small amounts of compensation for some. Otherwise, it might be worth the trip to a local Walmart or Target instead.
