The gameplay trailer, which debuted on the officialApex LegendsYouTube channel, is six minutes long and goes into great detail regarding the biggest addition toApex Legendscoming in Legacy: the Arena. Essentially, the Arena is a 3v3 modewhere two squads fight to earn three victories with a two win margin over the other squad. At the beginning of a match, players will choose their Legend as normal and each squad will spawn in a starting room on either side of the arena. At the start of each round, players will have the opportunity to buy and upgrade weapons, Legend abilities, and consumables with crafting materials.

Players will be given a set amount of crafting materials at the start of each round, with more being awarded depending on performance. However, no purchased gear will be carried over between each round. If a match makes it to a final ninth round, a sudden death round will occur which looks to have mortar strikes raining down constantly over the course of the round. Finally, variousdifferent arenas based off standard mapswere shown, as well as brand new arenas made specifically for the new mode.

Next, players were able to see a brief look at Valkyrie in action, including her unique Legend abilities. ThoughValkyrie’s abilities leaked ahead of time, players finally received confirmation on what her kit will be. Her passive ability looks to allow her to hover to the ground while in the air, while her tactical ability calls down a missile cluster in the shape of a square on a given location. Finally, her ultimate ability will act as a mobile jump tower of sorts for the entire squad, complete with a specific animation. All in all, Valkyrie already looks to be a very strong addition to the game’s large roster.

Finally, the trailerdetailed the new Bocek Compound Bowcoming in Legacy, which can utilize two hopups. The Shattercaps hopup gives every shot a spread similar to a shotgun, while Deadeye’s Tempo gives the Bocek Bow much faster fire speed when “firing at the optimal pace.” To cap things off, the gameplay trailer ended with a brief tease of the Infested Olympus map changes, which sees a massive ship crashing into the map and infesting it with vines and plants. Needless to say,Apex LegendsLegacy update will shake up the battle royale quite a bit when the update rolls out on May 4.

Apex Legendsis out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
