Summary

A known insider/leaker believes thatNintendofans could still be on for a traditional Nintendo Direct in September of this year. This comes despite the fact that the previous month alreadyended with a Direct aboutSuper Mario Bros. Wonder.

Nintendo Directs have been a fan-favorite highlight of the company for over a decade now, originally hosted by lateNintendopresident Satoru Iwata before other higher-ups took over following his death. These video presentations, while often randomly spaced out, often occur roughly every couple of months, some covering a variety of titles, and others focusing on a single topic. In fact, they’ve become so popular that from E3s 2013–2019, they replaced Nintendo’s usual live press conferences. Every month, new leaks and waves of fan speculation take place, pondering over whether a new Direct will air, and reactions to such Directs are a highly popular livestreaming activity.

Nintendo has a pattern of releasing a new Direct in September of most years, with oneunsurprisingly being rumored for 2023 as well, and theSuper Mario Bros. WonderDirect is often thought to have precluded that possibility. But according to reliable leaker Nate the Hate, “one doesn’t negate the other.” He originally replied to a fan who asked him when the next Nintendo Direct might be, and his response simply consisted of “Soon-ish.” No word was provided as to what exactly this supposed Direct would announce or talk about, whether it be new or existing games or even the long-rumored Switch successor. But the recentMarioDirect does suggest that particular game will likely not be talked about very much.

This short comment didn’t generate too much buzz, but some in the replies speculated that the premiere date might be on September 13 or 25. One user even stated that another known leaker has already confirmed it will be on the 13th. Those dates do make some degree of sense, aswith Tokyo Game Show 2023 happening soon, Nintendo might want to time such a Direct so that it does not get overshadowed by the event, either by dropping it ahead of the show or right afterward.

Of course, leaks like these should always be taken as lightly as possible. Whileseveral Nintendo-related leakshave been proven correct in the past, many others have been proven false. Nintendo is also rather notorious for remaining tight-lipped around a lot of its plans, and shadow-dropping the announcements and releases of several games outside of Nintendo Directs, so it’s really up in the air as to whether it has anything planned for September.
