The piece itself shows a scene from what looks like it might be off thefirstAmong Usmap, the Skeld, with an impostor having successfully killed a crew member and begun fleeing the scene of the crime. However, this particular piece has Vista’s pixelated style to it, giving the entire scene a retro feel that has become popular among similar indie titles. It’s an interesting reimagining that really highlights the dark, imposing atmosphere of the ship that are normally dulled by being juxtaposed against the flash cartoon art style thatAmong Usis now known for.
InnerSloth’s own Twitter account for the game even responded to the image, thanking Vista for creating it and sharing the passion for the game that manyAmong Uscontent creatorshave brought to the experience. Other fans commenting on the original post also heaped praise onto Vista for the amazing work done, with many pointing out the colors and lighting work done to bring the image to life. Additionally, the artist hid a small Easter egg for fans of previous pixelated works that has appeared in the background of many of Vista’s other pieces.
It’s a sure sign that the fan community for a game is thriving when so much quality fanart like Vista’s recent retro piece is constantly being pumped out by players. Fortunately, thepopularity ofAmong Uswill mean even more of this type of art of this quality, with Vista having created similar pieces in the past that were inspired by the indie darling. This kind of community engagement is what tons of games try to strive for, and it’s amazing to see a title that released in 2018 and struggled to maintain itself reach these kinds of heights after so long.
