Summary
One thing that makesMy Time at Sandrockunique is the combination of Old Western and futuristic styles. One part of the Old Western feel is that the people in town either walk, take the train, or ride a mount everywhere they need to go. As players trek through the desert day in and day out, it might be beneficial to have a mount to minimize the time it takes to get around. While there isn’t much variation between the four mount type options, each type does have its own benefits. The best mount will depend on how one plays the game.
The Horse, Yakmel, Goat, and Camel are adorable mounts, and all except the Goat can be upgraded. Fang’s Special, which becomes available after helping Fang perform some of his experiments, allows the player to be upgraded to the next quality level. These experiments are also a great way to win Fang’s heart if players are after thisromancable bachelor. A mount’s fur color can also be changed with the help of Greeno. That said, every mount’s quality levels and aesthetic choices are the same. Each animal’s speed and stamina will likely be more important toMy Time at Sandrockplayers.

The people of Sandrock are particularly proud of their Yakmel. These creatures are best known for providing their milk, which is a quick and easy way to get the player’s health up. It is a little surprising that it isn’t one of thebest foods for stamina inMy Time at Sandrock. After all, these creatures have Level 5 stamina at the Rare quality, and Level 4.5 when players purchase the Perfect quality. Yakmels also don’t need to be fed as often as other mounts, since they last for so long. The downside of a Yakmel is their low speed, since players won’t get anywhere quickly compared to the other mount options.
Players can get a Yakmel from Elsie, but it is important to note that this is a milk Yakmel, not a mount. The ones that players can ride do not produce milk, and they live in the stables. The Yakmels bought from the barn (not the stable) in Cooper’s farm will need a barn to live in at the workshop, and they will be the milk producers.
The first interaction with a mount inMy Time at Sandrockis when Elsie teaches the builder what to do. This quest is calledLearning to Ride, and it opens Cooper’s mount shop. Players can rent animals from this shop until purchasing becomes available.
Out of all the mounts, the Horse is the only one that reaches a max speed of 5. Riding the Horse will be faster than running on foot and is one of the fastest ways to get around. The only thing that may be faster isusing the Yakmel Stations for fast travel. However, using these stations costs Gold each time. The Horse has the lowest stamina, but its base level is still decent. The horse can last most of the day at running speed, even if most of the day is spent moving. Players can increase any mount’s stamina by feeding it.
While it isn’t the fastest, the Camel does have more speed than the Yakmel. Similarly, while it won’t outlast the Yakmel, it has better stamina compared to the Horse. This is a good happy medium option for anyone looking for a bit of power in both areas. If players don’t have a need for speed or stamina specifically, they may find this to be the better option.
The best speed and stamina available for a Camel is Level 4 each on a Rare quality mount. Although some players might assume that the Camel shouldimprove inventory spaceby offering some extra carrying pouches, this is not a feature they offer.
Players will need to lure and catch this creature as part of a mission calledThe Goat. It is a main story mission that will come up on its own as the game progresses. Having a goat is kind of like having one of thepets available inMy Time at Sandrock, but the process of getting him is a little different.
This mount is Haru’s goat, and players will need a stable to house him before convincing him to come with them. During the time the builder ends up taking care of the goat, there is an option to ride him. Similar to the camel, the goat is a 4 across the board. However, the player does not need to upgrade him to get these stats, and it is in fact not possible to upgrade him at all.
