A recent update forOverwatch 2has made a number of bold changes that fans aren’t too happy with, and one popular clip highlights how Cassidy’s reworked sticky grenade can even track targets around corners over crazy distances. While Cassidy’s new sticky grenade has been a controversial topic since the launch ofOverwatch 2, Blizzard has responded to the widespread player feedback by, surprisingly enough, making the ability even stronger.
With Cassidy’s original flashbang grenade now a thing of the past, fans have gotten used to his new and debatably-improved sticky grenade since theability was overhauled with the release ofOverwatch 2. While it no longer stuns enemies in place, the weapon can now stick to targets over a medium distance and deliver a sizable burst of damage. Its questionable tracking had already made it a frustrating enough ability in the eyes of many players, but at least it had a 10-meter maximum travel distance. This is no longer the case, with Blizzard significantly buffing both its travel distance and tracking capability while also introducing the “hindered” status effect that causes targets to be slowed upon impact.

While the grenade’s overall damage has been slightly reduced in an attempt to compensate for these adjustments, players have already began sharing clips highlighting some ridiculous moments involving Cassidy’s reworked grenade. One popular video was shared on Reddit by the user jvilla225, and highlights a moment where the grenade that they throw homes in on an enemy player standing at least 20 meters away. Not only does it reach their location, it also takes a sharp turn to chase the enemy as they retreat through a doorway. Many otherOverwatch 2players have captured similar moments, comparing the grenade’s hilarious tracking physics to those seen in wacky cartoons.
The changes to Cassidy’s grenade are both funny and frustrating in their own right, but the ability’s magnetic properties seem to be less problematic than the new “hindered” status that it inflicts. This debuff results in a flat 30% reduction in movement for a short duration while also temporarily disabling a target’s movement abilities, making it virtually impossible for opponents to escape once they’re stuck. This effectively counters most if not alldive heroes inOverwatch 2, and makes life even tougher than it was before for tank players who end up trapped on the front lines.
Overwatch 2’s Season 5 updatehas brought back CC through more than just the sticky grenade, however. CC – or crowd control – is a hotly discussed term in theOverwatch 2community, and refers to abilities that directly inhibit movement. Limiting crowd control abilities seemed to be one ofOverwatch 2’s many goals, but Blizzard appear to have gone back on this choice by drastically improving the slow effect on Mei’s weapon in Season 5 as well. Whatever the case, fans haven’t hesitated in making their discontent with these changes clear, with many urging the developers to undo the tweaks they made to Cassidy’s grenade.
Overwatch 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
