We’ve established in the review of the previous episode thatA Couple of Cuckoosintends to deliver a roller coaster ride by alternating its episodes between comedic and dramatic contents. The format is usually two episodes for comedy, and then two episodes for drama. Rinse and repeat.
After a run of dramatic moments inepisodes 7and 8, we were back to the funny stuff in episode 9. So based on the trends thus far, episode 10 should be a rather funny and entertaining episode as well. Let’s see how it goes in this review for the 10th episode ofA Couple of Cuckoos.

Episode 9 is all about how the main characters finally get their much-needed break.Nagi gets the chance to go on a date with Hiro, Erika spends some quality time with Sachi, and it all ends with the three of them going on a fishing trip with Nagi’s adopted father. All in all, a rather light and wholesome episode.
While still leaning more towards comedy, episode 9 offered some interesting relationship dynamics and a little character development as well. Seeing the main characters spending quality time with people that they rarely hang out with and do the things that they haven’t done in the series before is a really fun thing to watch.
Don’t Treat Me Like A Little Sister
Episode 10 is split into two major parts. The first one is aboutNagi and Sachiwho try to find the perfect gift for their mom for Mother’s Day. This proved to be quite a challenging task because Nagi and Erika never shopped together for this kind of thing before.
Not only because Nagi usually prefer to study at home, rather than going out with Sachi, but also because finding the right gift for their industrious mother is quite hard. Looking at these adoptive siblings racking their brains trying to come up with different kinds of gifts will certainly put a smile on your face.

The second part of the story is about Erika who forcefully asks Nagi to go out exploring the city with her.Her father is coming for a visit, and she doesn’t want to see him. Erika is afraid that her father would ask her to move back and live with her parents.
Unbeknownst to them, since they leave the house empty, Erika’s father finally gets the chance to meet and talk to Sachi. He takes her to a nice dinner in exchange for telling them everything that she knows about the life of Erika and Nagi thus far. Needless to say, he asks her to keep their conversation a secret from those two. Quite a cunning old man.
Giving Attention To Some Minor Characters
One of the nicest things that happened in the previous episode is the inclusion of Nagi’s father into the story. The parents are always around and often make a brief appearance here and there, but it is the first time when we get to see a fully dedicated time for them.
Episode 10 doubles down on that intention to put some minor characters into the limelight, and it works tremendously well. As a result, we get to know ’s motherand Erika’s father in this episode.
It may be just a minor character development for some minor characters, but it shows that these characters are actually living human beings, and not just some stock characters that are thrown out to fulfill a specific role.
A Respectable Balance
As stated earlier, one of the main challenges that often appear in every episode ofA Couple of Cuckoosis finding the right balance between comedy and drama. More often than not,we either get the dramatic romanceor the hilarious comedy.
Episode 10, however, tries to tackle that balance by combining funny scenes with decent character development for the minor characters. Granted, it is not a perfect balance, as the episode is still skewed more towards comedy, but it is certainly a respectable effort. Hopefully, they’ll manage to crack that code for the subsequent episodes.
Episode 10 ofA Couple of Cuckoosis actually quite an enjoyable episode to watch. It offersplenty of comedic momentswhile still providing decent character development for some minor characters. Not only that, but there is also a decent effort of trying tobalance the story between the drama and the comedy. Sure, it is still not a perfect balance, but it is a respectable effort nonetheless.
As for a prediction on how things would turn out in the next episode, well, we already have two decent episodes that focus more on the comedy side of the story. So it is highly likely that the next episode will bring the drama back into the mix.
